Back in March, The CW revealed that "The Flash" will return for an all-new season. Now the network has given us a specific premiere date, which is set for Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. EDT.
Since the Season 2 finale "The Race of His Life," lots of news have been revealed about the coming third season. As far as the plot is concerned, Andrew Kreisberg told Collider back in January that viewers may see more Gorilla City.
"I would liken the Gorilla City thing to Ra’s al Ghul. You know, you hear about 'the man from Nanda Parbat' in [Arrow] Season 1, and 'the man who showed Malcolm the way,' and then you met Nyssa, then in Season 3 you met Ra’s. So, it’s a long-term thing," said Kreisberg.
There is perhaps a chance that the "Flashpoint" storyline could be told, but the cast and crew have been silent about the whole thing.
For the cast, Tom Cavanagh will return as a series regular. However, we do not know which version of Harrison Wells the actor will portray in Season 3.
Furthermore, "The Flash" is looking to bring in a new mysterious series regular. According to TV Line, the recurring character is expected to be an inquisitive contemporary to Barry (Grant Gustin) who is "as smart as he is intuitive." The problem with his curiosity, however, is that this character does not take anything at face value. The site also implied that the character is hiding a secret of his own while he takes it upon himself to discover what makes Barry tick.
Based on "The Flash" comic characters, a scientist like Edwin Gauss (who is also The Folded Man) and Curt Engstrom (The Alchemist) or even Alexander Petrov (Mister Element) could all be good contenders for the described character.
As Screen Rant reported, the big question here is will this recurring character be in the past where Barry is now, or in the present where Barry will presumably make his way back? The question can really only be answered if we knew which direction the writers were taking Season 3.
