Early this year in March The CW announced "The Flash" will return for a third season. With that news, fans are wondering who will return and luckily we know a few details regarding the casting for Season 3.
Entertainment Weekly recently reported that actor Tom Cavanagh will return for the third season in a full-time capacity. Although the site is left speculating what form Cavanagh's character may take.
The actor who has played Eobard Thawne and Harry Wells in the past two seasons, respectively, has had a whirlwind of a storyline.
If you recall, in the Season 1 finale, "Fast Enough," Cavanagh's character Harrison Wells who was actually Eobard Thawne was erased from existence by Eddie's (Rick Cosnett) decision to take his own life. Then in Season 2, Cavanagh returns as the delightful Harry Wells from Earth-2. But at the end of the second season, Harry returned to his home universe with his daughter, Jesse, presumably to stay. Although Cisco (Carlos Valdes) revealed Harry would make a return.
While Cisco has revealed the character would visit, that does not necessarily mean that will be Cavanagh's role in the third season. Barry (Grant Gustin) chose to save his mother at the end of the Season 2 finale and that has changed everything. With the main character saving his mother he has changed not only his past, but everyone in his life -- including Cavanagh.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Gustin responded to Barry possibly losing his optimism that the fans have come to expect from the character.
"We won’t lose it, though, I will be adamant!," said Gustin. "I don’t know what’s going to happen in season 3, how they’re going to write it, where they’re going to go, but Berlanti and Kreisberg and Geoff – I actually don’t know how closely Geoff’s involved anymore – but all those guys know The Flash better than anybody, and they know that he has to have the optimism. His whole perspective on life is to constantly move forward with his life, and let his past be a part of it, but stay optimistic and kind of live your life."
