Heading home from the office after I received delivery of my tester 2013 Audi A4 Quattro, I couldn't help but reflect on the history and prestige behind the mark, as you would with any of the German brands. As blind chance would have it, the 2013 Audi A4 would come face to face with its ancestor of direct lineage -- a last-generation Audi 90 coupe.
Mismatched bumpers and all, the best years of this particular coupe have long past but it's still a rare sight to spot one at all. Internally known as the B4, the last of the Audi 90 series allowed the Ingolstadt automaker to significantly spearhead into the executive compact class and challenge BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Following the B4's success, the next-generation B5 marked the beginning of the Audi A4 series.
