A teen boy from France stabbed his father to death and then shared the video of the crime scene on social media.
The 17-year-old, who has not been publicly identified, is a resident of Ploeren town, in the northwestern Brittany region.
On Saturday, June 5, police officers were dispatched to the teen’s home after he called the authorities and told them that "he had just stabbed his father to death in the family home", prosecutor Francois Touron said in a statement.
Responding officers arrived at the home and found an unresponsive man lying in a pool of blood. The victim reportedly had multiple knife wounds on his body.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teen, who was under the influence of large amounts of alcohol, has been arrested, investigators said.
Officers learned that the teen had taken a video of the crime scene and sent it to about 40 people on social media, Touron said. The video was immediately taken down from the social media platform.
Authorities set up a psychological support unit to help the recipients, and their parents, with any trauma from viewing the horrifying footage.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the teenager, after drinking at a party, went to the home where his father had been living alone. The victim’s wife and their two children had moved out of the house a few weeks ago, the prosecutor said.
The teen let himself in, grabbed two knives from the kitchen, and went to the bedroom where his father was asleep. The teen woke his father up and stabbed him until he made sure he wasn’t breathing, the prosecutor said.
During interrogation, the teen told police that he murdered his father because he wanted to put an end to the violence that he was inflicting on his family. He said that his father was an alcoholic and that his violent behavior had caused much suffering for the family.
According to authorities, the boy’s mother had filed a domestic violence complaint last month and a criminal investigation was opened against her now-deceased husband.
The woman left the family home with the couple’s two children, the prosecutor said.
On Monday, an investigating magistrate charged the teen with voluntary manslaughter and the publication of images related to a crime involving bodily harm.
