Borussia Dortmund star Robert Lewandowski has been linked with a possible move to Bayern Munich in recent months and heading into the final year of his contract, current Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp believes the striker will make the switch between German clubs.

While the 24-year-old may head to rival Munich once the contract with his current club comes to an end following the 2013-2014 season, Manchester United and Chelsea were 2 other clubs interested in the services of the premier scorer. Expecting his primary offensive weapon to leave for the 2012-2013 UEFA Champions League title holders, Jurgen Klopp remains focused on the upcoming season.

"I think it is a fact that Robert Lewandowski will join Bayern at the end of the coming season," Klopp told reporters. "What matters now is what we do before that point. That is our concern, and we have an obligation to our fans to ensure we are competitive in the coming season."

There was a strong possibility that Borussia Dortmund could have sold the player in order to receive something in return rather than just letting Lewandowski walk at the end of next season. Now that his departure by way of an ending contract seems inevitable, Klopp told Welt am Sonntag that Robert Lewandowski is fully aware of the obligations he still has with the Champions League runner-up now that a sale will not happen.

"Up to a certain point we were with Robert's desire for change and were ready to talk," Klopp said. "But nothing happened so we had to eventually say, a sale now no longer works for us. Now we want to prove that, with a quality player like Robert, we can be successful in the coming year. Our results in the coming season are what we're all about. I know that Robert and I see it the same way."

The expected move to Bayern Munich following the 2013-2014 campaign would reunite Lewandowski with former Dortmund teammate Mario Gotze. Gotze was shipped from Dortmund to Munich and shortly after the arrival of their newest player, Munich coach Jupp Heynckes - who will be replaced by Pep Guardiola over the summer - said it wouldn't be long before Lewandowski wound up with Bayern Munich.

"Mario Gotze is already there, and Robert Lewandowski will not have to wait too long now," Heynckes told ESPN in May of 2013. "Then the team has two top-class attacking players. It is quite possible that, with the right signings, Bayern could created a new era in Europe."

Now that Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp announced his belief that Lewandowski will leave, it appears that Heynckes proclamation will hold true.
