DMX was arrested (for like the 100th time) this morning in South Carolina. The rapper was pulled over after the highway patrol received a call about "a possible DUI" and X, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was spotted "driving erratically" in a 1978 Plymouth station wagon.
According to reports, he was arrested at approximately 3 a.m. ET, but was released from the Greenville County Detention Center about an hour later. He wasn't charged with drunk driving, his publicist insists.
"Allegations about DMX being arrested for drunk driving are false. He was arrested early this morning but quickly released. X was given a breathalyzer test and easily passed it. He is back at his home in South Carolina and we are continuing our focus on his upcoming album and acting roles," the MC's rep, Domenick Nati, said in a statement, adding that the rapper was charged with driving without a license.
However, South Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres said in a recorded message that DMX was in fact charged with DUI.
"The driver, Mr. Earl Simmons, was offered a field sobriety test, which he subsequently failed and was placed under arrest. He was charged with driving under the influence, not having a diver's license, and not wearing a seat belt."
The 48-year-old rapper has more than a dozen arrests on his record. He was arrested back in February on suspicion of driving without a license, and in 2011 for driving at 102 mph. He also faced multiple 2008 arrests in Phoenix on charges ranging from animal cruelty to reckless driving. DMX also did a brief stint in prison for violating his probation by refusing to take a drug test.
Although known for being arrested several times, TMZ joked that the rapper didn't get arrested at all in 2012.
Who do you think was affected by the early hours of the morning and confused information, DMX's rep or the South Carolina officer?
