“A Discovery Of Witches” has been renewed, and it’s not just for one more season but for two. The show premiered in the U.K. on Sept. 14, 2018, and became a big hit. Apparently, the show’s massive viewership ratings led to the placement of orders for more episodes.

Sky One announced the renewal in November 2018, on the same day when the last episode of the first season aired. It was reported that filming for “A Discovery Of Witches” Season 2 is set to begin this month, and this was confirmed by one of the cast members, Teresa Palmer.

“Filming will begin in July,” she said in an interview. “Well, they’re starting earlier than me ‘cause I’m having a baby. I think they start in either the end of May or early June, and then I’ll jump in and do my stuff in July after I give birth to a human.”

Palmer, who plays Diana Bishop in the series, was pregnant when she was interviewed earlier this year. She gave birth in April, so this means that she may be back on the set now and working for Season 2.

Main Storyline Of The Series

“A Discovery Of Witches” is based on Deborah Harkness’ “All Souls” novel trilogy. The story mainly revolves around Diana Bishop, an American witch and historian who is not really interested in using her powers. She tried to decode a bewitched book about supernatural creatures but ended up time traveling to a world of witchcraft inhabited by vampires, demons and other mythical creatures.

Back in the present time, she met Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode), a British geneticist who also happened to be a vampire. She teamed up with him to protect the magical book so it will not fall into the hands of people who may wrongly use it for evil deeds.

Cast Members And Show Executives

Aside from Palmer and Goode, the TV series also stars Valarie Pettiford (Emily Mather), Malin Buska (Satu), Owen Teale (Peter Knox) and Alex Kingston (Sarah Bishop). Alice Troughton and Sarah Walker stand as directors, while Kate Brooke and Tom Farrelly co-wrote most of the stories in the first season.

Casting Goode was one of the best decisions made by the show. Brooke once talked about the fantasy series and explained why the actor was perfect for the lead role as a vampire.

“Vampires are definitely the sexiest supernatural entities,” she said. “It was imperative that our hero oozed sex appeal and we had the wonderful good fortune of casting Matthew Goode as his namesake, Matthew Clairmont, who is the most civilized character imaginable.”

“He has perfect manners and is always in control. And yet he is constantly battling his desire to latch himself on to Diana and taste her blood. It’s the sexiness of that control versus that animal need,” she added.

Premiere Date And Where To Watch It

Season 2 of “A Discovery Of Witches” will still be streamed via AMC’s streaming sites Sundance Now and Shudder. However, its premiere date is still unknown as of the time of writing.
