Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant may be making his return on prime-time football next week.
According to numerous reports, Bryant is expected to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Bryant suffered a tibial plateau fracture in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears, and has not played a single game since then. The Cowboys are coming off a critical bye week to rest their players.
Bryant missed seven games last season because a foot fracture while Tony Romo missed the majority of the season with a broken left collarbone. Both Romo and Bryant have been injured for the majority of this season, but it’s been a very different story. These Cowboys, led by Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, are 5-1. Last year’s Cowboys squad finished the season 4-12.
Bryant caught a touchdown in his last game against the Bears, his only score so far of this season. Despite the Cowboys not having the All Pro wide out on the field for quite some time, they have managed to put together a 3-0 record without him this season. Other receivers and tight ends have stepped up in Bryant’s absence such as Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams and (of course) Jason Witten.
The Cowboys have an extremely important game next against their division rival Eagles, who are 4-2. The Cowboys may very well be 5-1, but they are just 1-1 in divisional play and the NFC East has been a lot more competitive this year than most people anticipated. A Bryant return could very well make the difference between winning or losing on Sunday night. If the Cowboys lose, thus falling to 5-2, it would mean the Eagles would take over first place in the NFC East based on head-to-head play.
