As my abuelita tends to say: "Se veran cosas!" (We will see things), and evidently, she's right! Two of reggaeton's finest artists, Daddy Yankee and Don Omar, have just announced their first-ever tour...together. This is huge news!
If you recall, both Puerto Rican stars, who kicked off their careers around the same time, have had a rocky relationship that goes back to more than a decade ago. Part of their conflict was over an argument about King Daddy not putting Don on his 2004 album "Barrio Fino". It was then followed with back-to-back rap battles, where both boricuas dissed each other.
But those days are long gone, as the "Gasolina" singer and "Pobre Diabla" singer have already made their peace. In fact, things are running smoothly between the professional pair, that they even recorded together for Don Omar's recent album "The Last Don 2."
To prove that they have put their sour past aside, El Cangri and El Rey have announced a tour together titled "The Kingdom" ---a 60-date Yankee/Omar tour that is scheduled to run for two years. The tour is also framed as a musical "boxing match," where fans in each city will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite musical sets or "rounds" via an app designed for the concert.
“I was motivated by doing something completely different -- and by the size of the offer. This is a sport, and I like to be the best athlete,” said Yankee, 38, exclusively to Billboard. His 37-year-old colleague, on the other hand, has stronger words. “Let me clarify: I am not his best friend, and he is not my best friend, but we respect each other. That desire to be the best is what has pushed us to be better.”
"The Kingdom" is set to kick off December 5th in their native island Puerto Rico. Dates have yet to be announced. We seriously can't wait for this! Will you be checking them out on tour? Sound off in the comments below!
