Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo filmed a new advertisement for Nike on a Cheshire park pitch with massive security and two body doubles on Thursday.
The Portuguese international footballer reportedly shot a new commercial photographed with head-to-toe Nike gear; a black warm-up jacket, black shorts and socks and a seemingly new unreleased white and red Mercurial boots.
Two Ronaldo lookalikes were also present, and both appeared to be having fun as they laughed together and showed off their skills in a matching kit but with black boots instead. They even had a very similar haircut to the legendary Ronaldo skin fade and one wore a shiny stud in his left ear.
The 37-year-old five-time Ballon d'Or winner was accompanied by many personnel, including a giant bodyguard in a suit with an earpiece. The legendary striker, believed to be Nike's highest-paid athlete, is expected to promote new boots. Ronaldo's partnership with the sportswear giant has existed for almost two decades. He has an astounding £14.7 ($18) million-per-year contract with Nike, making him the American brand's top-paid sports star ahead of Neymar, LeBron James, Tiger Woods and Rafael Nadal.
Ronaldo has worn more than 30 signature Nike Mercurial models since his first in 2010. For the last few months, the former Juventus star has been wearing his £245 ($300) Mercurial Superfly VIII Elite Dream Speed 5 boots.
The Cheshire filming is believed to be part of the launching preparation for the next edition over the summer. According to the manufacturer, "The Nike Mercurial Dream Speed Vapor 14 Elite embodies Cristiano Ronaldo's greatest self-proclaimed strength: the power of the mind and meditation. Calming shades of green work together with energising tones of purple and yellow, resulting in a boot that radiates positivity."
"Shades of green, purple and yellow are inspired by scientific studies linking the colours most associated with calmness, positivity and energy. Nike Aerotrak plate with micro grooves delivers explosive acceleration. Chevron studs provide multi-directional traction with every step. NikeGrip technology helps keep your foot from sliding inside your football boot."
Ronaldo was awarded the Premier League's Player of the Month award on Thursday just before his Nike ad shoot in Cheshire. Ronaldo scored an incredible five goals in the four games he played across April, including another historical hat-trick against Norwich.
