Rapper Cardi B has opened up about the moment when she and her husband Offset found out about his cousin Takeoff’s death.
She spoke about it during her appearance on the inaugural episode of Jason Lee’s new eponymous podcast. She said that she and her husband were in bed when they got the tragic news that Takeoff, who was Offset’s cousin and Migos groupmate, had been shot dead. She shared that they were supposed to go to a party in New York, and her daughter threw up all over her costume. For them, Halloween was over because it was "just so much throw-up on the custome and I ain’t have nothing to wear.”
She said that they just fell asleep, and out of nowhere, Offset’s phone started ringing. He picked up the phone and he screamed, "No!" He kept screaming "No! No! No! No!" When she asked what was going on, he told her about Takeoff being dead. Cardi "smacked" him and told him not to say that. Then he started "screaming and throwing things, throwing up, running all over."
She was "so scared, I was crying so much. It was terrible.” She explained that the rapper's untimely death continued to weigh heavily on her and Offset’s hearts. She said that any small setback would be enough to “trigger” them. She shared that it was such a "sensitive time in my home."
Takeoff, whose real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, was fatally shot outside a Houston, Texas bowling alley on Nov. 1, 2022, reported Hiphop DX. According to police, the 28-year-old was an innocent bystander to a dice game that involved Quavo and other men when an argument over the game escalated. Then shots got fired and Takeoff was struck by stray bullets in the head and torso.
Offset has often posted about Takeoff on social media since his death. He even called his cousin's death “unbearable" in one of his posts on Instagram. According to Page Six, while Offset has continued to mourn his death, Cardi has remained by his side. She admitted that she felt “hopeless” trying to keep a smile on her husband's face.
