Two Texas brothers are in jail after they pummeled their stepfather to death for allegedly sexually abusing their 9-year-old sister.
Alejandro and Christian Trevino, along with family friend Juan Eduardo Melendez, all 18, are accused of beating 42-year-old Gabriel Quintanilla and dumping his body in an open field — where it was discovered by a farmer last Thursday, Jan. 20.
Quintanilla was found dead in a field in McAllen with apparent severe blunt force trauma to his head, police said.
According to reports, the brothers were "enraged" after their minor sister made an outcry about being inappropriately touched by her father at an RV park home.
The brothers confronted their stepdad last week and a fight broke out — leading Quintanilla to flee the scene, KGRV reported, citing police.
"When brothers Alexandro and Christian Trevino found out, they became enraged and confronted Gabriel Quintanilla at the residence. A physical fight ensued between the three and the victim Quintanilla left the location on foot," according to a news release from the Pharr Police Department.
Christian chased Quintanilla to an apartment complex down the road and Melendez drove Alejandro to the complex, where a second assault occurred.
The three suspects then left the location, changed vehicles from a red Dodge Charger to a truck, and drove back, where they found Quintanilla walking alone and injured, Pharr police said in the release.
Police say Quintanilla was assaulted a third time. He was beaten to a pulp with brass knuckles and suffered severe head trauma, police said.
They then placed him in the bed of their pickup truck and drove him to the nearby field. Police believe Quintanilla might have still been alive when the teens allegedly dumped him in the field.
"A third assault occurs and the victim is severely beaten. The victim who is still alive is placed in the bed of the truck and drove off and ended up in the McColl and Whalen Road (area) where the victim was dropped off in an open field and the suspects fled," police said.
Hidalgo County records show Christian is charged with aggravated assault, murder, and engaging in organized criminal activity, and Alejandro is charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and aggravated assault.
Melendez is charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of marijuana.
MyRGV reported that Alejandro is exempted from murder charges because police believe Christian and Melendez dealt the fatal blows.
Quintanilla is Alejandro and Christian’s stepfather and the two brothers have different fathers. They are both half-siblings of the 9-year-old girl, the station reported.
According to police, at the time of his death, Quintanilla had an arrest warrant for continuous sexual abuse of another child and assault family violence.
