A 30-year-old Indian man allegedly raped his minor stepdaughter. He also tried to rape his other stepdaughter.
Police said on Tuesday that the incident involving the 10-year-old victim, took place in Alwar district of Rajasthan, Republic World reported.
Ravindra Kavia, who is the SHO of the area police station, said that after raping the 10-year-old, the accused attempted to rape the victim's six-year-old sister.
Police said that the victims' biological father had passed away due to cancer. After his death, the girls' mother started a live-in relationship with the accused. She and the accused got married three years ago, reported India Today.
But when she got to know that her husband, who is a laborer and a liquor addict, was molesting her children, she sent the girls to her brother-in-law's house. Later, her daughters were shifted to a shelter home. It was at the shelter home that the girls shared the incident with the staff. The staff members then informed the police about it.
On July 22, police got a complaint. An FIR was registered the next day after the facts mentioned in the complaint were verified. According to Alwar SP Tejaswani Gautam, police arrested the man within 24 hours after the FIR was registered. She said that the stepfather of the two minor victims was held on July 24. A chargesheet against the accused has also been filed in a court, she shared.
Gautam said that one police team was searching for the stepfather and the second team was busy getting the girls' medical tests done, taking statements and collecting evidence.
In a separate incident, a 30-year-old man was arrested earlier this month in Raipur for allegedly raping his three-year-old stepdaughter, said police, according to NDTV. The child's mother filed a complaint after learning about the incident.
An official said that on the basis of the complaint, the accused was booked under IPC sections 376 (rape), 376(2)(F) (being a relative, guardian or teacher of, or a person in a position of trust or authority towards the woman, rapes such woman) and 376AB (rape on woman under twelve year of age), 342 (wrongful confinement). He was also booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
After an examination, the girl's health was found to be normal.
