Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally faced YouTube boxer Logan Paul who has yet to win a professional boxing match. And in what most felt would be short-work for the retired fighter ended up going the full route. Hence, it comes as no surprise that boxing fans are livid, branding the fight as fixed.
Fans are accusing of Mayweather throwing the fight where there were no judges present. At some point, it even appeared the 44-year-old was trying to hold up Paul at some point.
But make no mistake about it. Mayweather dominated the fight. But the only thing that drew criticism as he was unable to finish off the YouTuber who was only in his second fight. And considering Logan Paul’s first opponent was not an actual boxer, seeing a future Hall of Famer unable to make short work of the 26-year-old raised questions – particularly the part of doing it all just to make money.
Part of that included the revenue that Showtime’s TV coverage stood to make. By going the full eight rounds, that would reward them with huge pay packets.
Aside from that, some suggested that it was done for both fighters to save face. Mayweather technically won but it was something he could not be proud of. Some called it a WWE-like setup, an event mainly to make money and a big joke.
Either way, Mayweather and Paul could care less. The fact remained that both of them earned big from the fight but the “circus” tied to these unusual boxing setups remained.
As for Mayweather, he bats that he remains he is the smart one for business mentality. He could care less about what people say about him since people will still keep him relevant as they continue to write about him – whether good or bad.
"When I see it's a chance for me to do a heist, a quick heist. I'm gonna let y'all know this. Y'all can say what y'all wanna say, at the end of the day, I'm the smart one. 'Cause I don't care if you write good about, you write bad about me, just keep writing about me. Y'all keeping my name out there,” Mayweather stated.
