As the manhunt for Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev continues, two of Boston's professional sports teams have put their activities on hold to support the police search.
Postponing their Friday morning skate session before their scheduled game with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Boston Bruins -- following directions from local and state officials -- have postponed tonight's scheduled contest with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Boston Red Sox were in a holding pattern regarding tonight's game with the Kansas City Royals, but as ESPN.com reports the Red Sox game has also been postponed.
One other Boston team involved in scheduling difficulties are the Boston Celtics. The Celtics regular-season finale against the Indiana Pacers was cancelled Tuesday following the events at the Boston Marathon the day before. The game was not rescheduled, but the Celtics will begin their postseason schedule Saturday when they take on the Knicks in New York City.
While these three in-season organizations had their game schedules altered in some fashion, Boston's football team, the New England Patriots, has had multiple press conferences postponed.
As ESPN reports, the Patriots were forced to postpone two press conferences with director of player personnel Nick Caseria. Caseria was to speak about the Patriots upcoming NFL Draft plans and while he has been put on hold twice, the press conference is now scheduled to take place on Monday, April 22.
Following a shootout between Massachusetts police officers and Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his brother Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev late Thursday night, Boston area residents were ordered by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick to remain inside their homes.
Suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was fatally wounded in the fire fight with police, but his younger brother, 19-year-old Dzhokhar, escaped on foot. Police began a manhunt for the suspect and asked that residents remained inside and cooperate with police during their house-to-house inspections across the area. Helicopters were also used to survey the ground below.
The Bruins are currently 4th in the Eastern Conference with 6 games remaining in the regular season. Having already locked up a postseason berth, the Bruins hope to catch the Montreal Canadiens in the Northeast Division because claiming a Northeast Division title would give the Bruins the Eastern Conference No. 2 seed.
On the diamond, the Red Sox are off to a solid start in 2013. 15-games into the regular season, the Sox have a 2.5 game lead on the Yankees in the American League East division. Winners in 11 of their first 15, Boston looks to be a contender early on this season.
The Boston Bruins game scheduled for Friday night has been moved to 12:30 p.m., EDT Saturday. There has been no re-scheduled date for the Red Sox game against Kansas City.
