Hot off the announcement of BMW's new Head of Design, BMW took advantage of the glamorous Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este boutique car show to unveil its latest BMW Zagato Coupe.
Zagato worked closely with the team at BMW to create a dynamic coupe design study. Incorporating Zagato signature designs including the graceful double-bubble roof, a long engine cover and fender vents, the BMW Zagato Coupe also features a "Z" mesh pattern on the signature twin-kidney grille. Finally, the interesting Kammtail treatment is an element beyond both BMW and Zagato's heritage.
Reflecting upon the collaboration, BMW Head of Design Karim Habib said, "Working with Zagato was a fantastic experience. It was extremely enriching for us to create something with people who share our understanding of good design and passion for cars. And that is what makes the car so special - the open and constructive dialogue with Zagato, their experience, craftsmanship and incomparable sense for forms. All of these gifts are wrapped up in the BMW Zagato Coupé."
As gorgeous as it is, rather than introduce a display-only show car, BMW made a point to have its concept fully road registered in Germany, and has already undergone high-speed testing and shakedowns at BMW's own test facility. Hardware and running gear underneath the Zagato concept hasn't been confirmed, and BMW is particularly tight-lipped on the details. However, judging by dimensions and proportions, we believe its architecture is based on the BMW Z4.
