Back in March, the first real details for Season 5 of "Arrow" were revealed. We learned that a new vigilante will hit the streets of Star City, but we did not receive a name or any details, until now. According to Den of Geek, while Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) is busy playing Mayor, Rick Gonzalez ("Mr. Robot") will hit the streets as the new vigilante Wild Dog.
Entertainment Weekly reported that this new vigilantes actions will lead Green Arrow to take him on as an apprentice. The website read, "A new vigilante in Star City whose reckless and cocksure nature prompts Green Arrow to take him under his wing."
TV Line had a few early details about the character saying the show is looking for someone "irrepressibly charming...a man on a mission."
Reportedly, Wild Dog will have a tragic backstory of his own and could "just as easily shake your hand as your best friend or break your neck as your worst enemy — and you never know which one is coming. Either way, he’s more than capable of having a good time as he does it."
In the comics, Wild Dog is Jack Wheeler, a former marine who had his own mini-series in the late 1980s by Max Allan Collins and Terry Beatty.
Meanwhile, small details regarding the Season 5 villain has slowly been arriving online. According to TV Line, the working name for the villain is "Anton Church," but it is unclear if that is a code name for another well known DC villain.
The site describes "Anton Church" as a "ruthless crime lord who sets out to fill the sizeable void left by Damien Darhk and HIVE" and "an apex predator" looking to take down "the biggest threat first."
Amell added some clues while speaking to Variety. "I’ve heard that our big bad, our villain, is something that you can really only do once you’re in the fifth, sixth or seventh season of a TV show," he said.
The CW has not officially confirmed when "Arrow" Season 5 will premiere, but it usually happens at the same time each year. If the network follows its trend, then the new season will premiere the first Wednesday after New York Comic-Con in October.
