Early this month it was revealed that Superman would make an appearance in the second season of "Supergirl" on The CW. While we knew the character was coming, we did not know which actor would portray the Man of Steel, until now.
According to Den of Geek, Greg Berlanti and associates have cast the "Teen Wolf" alum Tyler Hoechlin to play Kara's (Melissa Benoist) cousin, Clark Kent or better known as Superman. In a statement, "Supergirl" showrunner Andrew Kreisberg noted that this casting choice was a long time coming.
"[Executive producer] Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman," Kreisberg said. "We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character."
The first season of "Supergirl" alluded to Kara's cousin dozens of times, even having him appear in silhouette several different times. Furthermore, Kara would chat with Superman via text and he would offer advice on her heroic career. The heroine also visited Superman's Fortress of Solitutde in an episode loaded with Easter eggs.
Meanwhile, a handful of new characters including Lex Luthor's sister, a metahuman detective and a few other comic book characters will be coming to National City. According to TV Line, "Supergirl" is searching for five or so characters to fill recurring roles on the series. Check out the characters below:
- Lena Luthor - Lex’s sister is described as a young woman in the 25-35-year-old range. She arrives in National City to escape from under the shadow of her infamous brother. She is described as sexy and smart and determined to get what she wants.
- Nick Farrow - He is a “brash leading man” who butts heads with Kara at CatCo. Farrow is a journalist and son of a famous reporter. Farrow is looking to make a name for himself and In hanging out with Kara, the hero in Nick "might finally come out.”
- Maggie - The comics-inspired Maggie is an out and proud detective for the newly formed Science Police, which deals specifically with metahuman and alien threats. Maggie appears to be a version of Maggie "Maggs" Sawyer from the comic books. The character is a longtime Gotham City Police Officer and is best known for her long-term relationship with Batwoman.
- Snapper Carr - A former Justice League sidekick in the comics but an “old school” reporter in the CatCo news division.
- The Doctor - A mysterious character who is the villainous female lead scientist on Project Cadmus (who could be the comicbook character Serling Roquette).
"Supergirl" will return for a second season this fall with a premiere date more than likely somtime in early October.
