An Oregon cyclist is suing an ambulance provider company after one of their ambulances injured him, transported him to the hospital and the billed him for their services.
71-year-old William Hoesch was charged $1,862 for the ambulance ride after an ambulance from Columbia River Fire & Rescue made a right turn into him as he was on his bike. The collision left Hoesch with a fractured nose, scratches and other injuries across his body.
As a result of the collision, Hoesch has been charged another $47,000 in medical bills, and is expected to rack up a further $50,000 worth of medical costs, reported the Oregonian.
The incident, which occurred in October of 2022, saw Hoesch traveling through Rainier in Columbia County in the same direction as the ambulance. The vehicle then collided into Hoesch when it attempted to turn right onto another street. His bicycle was crushed under the wheels of the ambulance.
Hoesch filed a $997,000 lawsuit against Columbia River Fire & Rescue on Oct. 24. It seeks funds for pain and suffering, with court documents stating that he suffered decreased range of motion, reduced grip strength and other symptoms, according to the Oregonian.
