An abusive Indiana father has been arrested on Monday following the grim death of his 4-year-old son, who was left to die, naked, at their home's basement following a pattern of torture and abuse over toilet-training issues.
Police charged suspect Alan Morgan, La Porte County, on Tuesday with one count of murder and five counts of neglect of a dependent in the death of his son Judah Morgan, 4, ABC57 reported.
Officers were called to a home early Monday morning on County Road 875 South, where responding deputies stumbled upon the unresponsive young boy at around 3:00 a.m.
The cops reported that the boy, who had no clothes on and was wrapped only in a blanket, was already cool to touch and had no pulse when they arrived. The young victim had obvious bruises to his body as a result of allegedly being beaten up.
A subsequent autopsy performed on Judah would rule his death a homicide due to blunt force trauma to the head, which caused extensive bleeding in his brain.
“Received a second 911 phone call from the mother, Mary Yoder, stating Alan might have fled as he had lost his temper and hurt the child and was scared and did not know what to do," court documents show.
Yoder then told police she “last saw Judah in the basement on Saturday the 9th," noting she was going into labor at that time and had left home on her way to the hospital to give birth, according to WSBT.
The mother also admitted she was aware of what Alan was capable of doing, following a history of abuse to the kids, "however she said she was afraid of Alan and could not stop him.” She also confessed that she predicted the man would again send Judah to the basement as punishment.
Formal charges were levied on Wednesday against the mother, who has been slapped with four charges, including two counts of neglect of a dependent.
Both suspects have since been arrested and booked into the LaPorte County Jail with no possibility of bond.
The paperwork further alleges a distinct pattern of abuse in the home, accusing Morgan of regularly assaulting his son as punishment for failing to perform proper bathroom etiquette.
The abusive man would reportedly lock Judah up in the basement for days, torturing the child by leaving him naked while also keeping his mouth shut with duct tape, Law&Crime noted.
According to authorities, there were three other children, ages 7, 2, and 1, found in the home but were left unsupervised by an adult. The kids have since been sent under the care of their relatives and were reportedly unscathed following the incident.
Meanwhile, the newborn baby would be placed for adoption as prosecutors seek life without parole for Morgan following a conviction.
