A 17-year-old girl allegedly killed herself after she was heinously gang-raped by three men at her home in Haryana, India on Friday, April 1.
On Friday, while the teen victim was alone at home preparing for her 12th-grade examinations, three suspects, whose names have not been disclosed to the public, allegedly stormed into her residence and proceeded to abduct her. After kidnapping her, the suspects then forcibly took her to an isolated area nearby and allegedly took turns sexually assaulting the underage victim, Deccan Herald reported.
The men subsequently let the minor go after the ordeal. The girl immediately rushed home, traumatized by the abuse. Just hours after being brutally gang-raped by the three suspects, the victim allegedly took her own life by hanging a noose from the ceiling of her house.
The victim was subsequently found dead by her family. The teenage girl's remains have been sent to the coroner's office for a postmortem examination. According to Inspector Chander Shekhar, three suspects have been named in the First Information Report (FIR) regarding the incident. One of the accused, aged 21, has been arrested and taken into police custody, Telangana Today reported.
The victim and the three suspects hailed from the same village, with the main accused reportedly being the teen girl's neighbor. Following the incident, the accused have been charged under sections of kidnapping, gang rape, abetment to suicide of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Caste scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a woman reportedly killed herself after having a heated argument with her husband over an unflushed toilet in their washroom in Kukatpally, Hyderabad, India on Tuesday, March 22, Latin Times reported.
The woman, identified as D Shruthi, 28, was reportedly left upset after her husband, D Naveen, a private employee, refused to acknowledge her complaints about their unflushed toilet. Naveen, who reportedly felt offended by the conversation, subsequently escalated the heated argument with Shruthi and dismissed her grievances.
After confronting her husband, the woman reportedly locked herself in the storeroom on the first floor of their residence and took her own life by hanging a noose from the room's ceiling fan.
Following the woman's death, the Kukatpally police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. The couple, along with their two children, lived at New Balaji Nagar in Kukatpally in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
