18-Year-Old Girl Kills Herself After Her Sister Refused To Buy Her Paneer Butter Masala Dish

An 18-year-old girl allegedly killed herself after her sister refused to buy her favorite paneer butter masala dish for dinner in Chennai, India on Sunday, March. 13.

The deceased, identified as 18-year-old G Henagros of Bharathi Nagar in Old Perungalathur, a first-year college student, had reportedly not been well for the last four days. On Saturday night, March 12, she asked her sister to buy paneer butter masala for dinner. Paneer butter masala is a dish popular in India and is made out of cottage cheese and butter.

However, when the sister refused her request, Henagros went to bed without eating anything that evening. The following day, on Sunday morning, while Henagros was sleeping in her room, her mother Vasundra and her eldest daughter went to church for weekly prayers. When they returned home hours later at around 11:30 am, they found Henagros' bedroom door locked from inside, DT Next reported.

Since there was no response from Henagros, the mother and her sister, with the help of neighbors, broke down the door and found Henagros dead in the room.

Following the incident, officers responded to the scene and transported the body to a government hospital in Chromepet for an autopsy. The officers added that they have registered a case in connection with the incident and an investigation is ongoing to establish the exact motive behind the suicide.

Henagros is reportedly the second child of 56-year-old Vasundra, who works in Southern Railways in India.

In a similar but unrelated incident, an 18-year-old boy reportedly killed himself after his parents refused to gift him a phone on his birthday in Jaipur, India on Feb. 16, Latin Times reported.

The deceased teen, identified as Aaditya Kumar, 18, celebrated his birthday on Feb. 13. Five days before his birthday, Kumar demanded a mobile phone as a gift from his parents. However, Kumar's father, Vijay Singh, reportedly refused and promised to buy him a new cell phone only after he passes his 12th-grade examinations with a decent score.

On late Wednesday night, Feb. 16, after noticing that the light in Kumar's room was still on, the father went to check on the boy and found him hanging limp from a ceiling fan.

After discovering their unresponsive son, the parents rushed the boy to SMS hospital for treatment. However, the doctors at the facility declared him dead upon arrival.
