A 16-year-old girl murdered her mother with the help of her 18-year-old boyfriend who reportedly gave her instructions over a video call.
According to police, the incident took place in the Faridabad district of Haryana, India, on the intervening night of July 10 and 11.
Police said the accused boyfriend went to the girl’s home on July 10 and handed her some sleeping pills.
The girl then allegedly mixed the pills in a glass of lemonade and gave it to her mother, said police.
According to the investigators, the girl carried out the crime, while her boyfriend "gave her directions" over a video call.
The exact cause of death is unclear at this time.
Police registered a case after the victim’s son filed a complaint accusing his sister and her boyfriend of murdering his mother.
The victim’s son, who works with a food delivery company, was home when the crime took place, police said.
During the investigation, authorities learned that the victim reportedly opposed her daughter’s relationship and had asked her to stay away from the boy.
Enraged by her mother’s disapproval the teen couple decided to get her out of their way.
The suspects were arrested without incident. The duo confessed to the crime during interrogation, police said.
"The duo was produced in court. While the 18-year-old has been sent to prison in Faridabad, the girl has been sent to a juvenile home," a local media report quoted Sube Singh, Faridabad Police PRO, as saying.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a girl from the Sambhal village of India’s Uttar Pradesh killed her father with the help of her lover and hanged him from a tree after he disapproved of their wedding and denied a share in the family property.
According to police, the shocking incident took place on July 19. The suspects, identified as Preeti and her boyfriend Dharmendra Yadav reportedly struck the victim, 46-year-old Harpal Singh, with an iron rod after getting him drunk.
The farmer was later found hanging from a tree. The death was initially treated as suicide. However, the investigation took a deviation after the autopsy results revealed signs of a murder.
"A probe was ordered after the autopsy report. It revealed that the man was murdered and his own daughter was the main suspect. She along with her boyfriend and his friend had killed Harpal as he was against her marriage plans and refused to give any property," Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP), Chakresh Mishra said.
Police arrested the couple and sent them to jail. The third suspect identified as one Gaurav is believed to be absconding.
