A man zip-tied at his wrists has been arrested for multiple charges following a disorderly drunken rampage after he allegedly attended a rowdy St. George "sex party" gone wrong on Thursday, July 1.
Authorities were alerted of criminal mischief on Thursday, July 1, shortly before midnight after a man was reportedly found punching a vehicle and causing significant damage to a car near the nightlife area of St. George in Utah, the St. George News reported.
The suspect, identified as Dwight Evan Taitano, 33, was later spotted walking south on Valley View Drive and appeared to be intoxicated, stumbling as he walked and unable to maintain his balance, officers noted.
After being flagged, Taitano told the officers that he was walking down the street after attending a “sex party” before showing them the zip ties still secured to his wrists. He told them that he also had zip ties on his ankles, but was able to remove those by himself before they arrived, Fox 13 Salt Lake City reported.
The inebriated Taitano further told officers that he was just trying to flag down bystanders to help him, although admitted to striking a woman's vehicle because he "didn't like her attitude" when she stopped to help him. The victim reportedly told the police that Taitano asked for her help before attempting to barge into her vehicle by pulling on the door handles. The scared woman drove away and called 911 to report the incident.
Taitano then asked the officers to cut the zip ties from his wrists. When Taitano realized that the officers do not have any tools to cut the zips, he became impatient and started walking away.
After a while, Taitano reportedly started fighting with the officers, and additional units had to be called to the spot for backup. The tussle lasted several minutes with Taitano allegedly kicking the officers, striking one in the face and another in the chest, as well as spitting on them.
Taitano was transported to Purgatory Correctional Facility Taitano and reportedly faces charges of assault by a prisoner, interference with an arresting officer, failing to stop at an officer’s command, and three counts of propelling a bodily substance. He was also booked on three outstanding warrants.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a pair of middle-aged Florida men were arrested for allegedly having sex in public last week, according to The Smoking Gun.
Daniel McCleary, 60, and Donald Engstrom, 59, were arrested on a misdemeanor charge after a St. Petersburg cop allegedly saw them engaging “in sexual acts while completely naked and in public view" on Wednesday, June 30.
The couple later admitted to the charges. The officer indicated in the affidavit said that the couple was under the influence of alcohol.
They were released on their own recognizance the day after their arrest.
