Police from Minnesota are now looking for suspects behind a road rage incident that saw a youth baseball coach killed. He was identified as Jay Boughton who was with his son at the time of the incident on Tuesday night.
According to police, Boughton and another driver got into an altercation at around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday. From there, details remain limited on how the incident led to the shooting.
It was only until both vehicles were side-by-side along the Minnesota highway when things got worse. Boughton was shot, forcing him to lose control of his vehicle that went off Highway 169 in Plymouth. It crashed through a chain-link fence and hit trees before slamming into other parked cars at an apartment, KSTP reported.
Boughton and his son were driving back from a team game at that time. The son tried to give his father CPR until an ambulance arrived. The shooter remains at large according to Plymouth Public Safety Director Erik Fadden in a press conference.
“I just have to say this was one of the most tragic events that I have witnessed in my 20 years of policing,” Fadden stated as he choked back tears. “It was really truly a senseless act that resulted in the loss of a human life. And our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and those affected by this horrible event.”
Local police are now seeking help from anyone who may have any information leading to the suspect. According to surveillance snapshots, the shooter was driving a light-colored SUV, possibly a Chevy Tahoe or Suburban. The vehicle could have a damaged rear bumper.
Boughton served as an assistant coach to the under 15UAAA team for the Armstrong Cooper Youth Baseball Association in the last three years, Kare 11 reported. All their remaining games have reportedly been postponed.
The late assistant coach is branded a great dad by one of his friends. According to Tim Browne, he was someone who would do anything for kids in their community.
“His presence in their lives and constant words of encouragement meant the world to the kids,” Browne stated.
