A 25-year-old woman is undergoing treatment for critical stab injuries after being attacked by her neighbor in India’s capital city.
The 40-year-old suspect, identified only as Sunil, a resident of South Delhi’s Nasirpur, has been arrested and booked for attempt to murder, reports said.
According to the police, the suspect was in an inebriated state when he stabbed the woman with a kitchen knife. The suspect claims that he attacked the woman after she abused his mother during an argument.
"Our enquiry revealed that the victim, a resident of Nasirpur, was injured after she was attacked with a kitchen knife by her neigbhour Sunil. During the scuffle, the accused was under the influence of alcohol," Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Manoj C told The Print.
The unnamed victim sustained critical stab injuries on the neck and cheek, police said. She is undergoing treatment at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and her condition is stated to be stable.
"A case has been registered under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and the accused has been arrested in the matter," the DCP said.
The kitchen knife used in the attack has also been recovered, the officer added.
In another incident, a 22-year-old Scottish boxer, who stabbed his neighbor to death with a screwdriver in a row over noise, faces life in jail after being convicted of murder.
In March 2021, Shane Young knifed Richard Marshall 40 times with a screwdriver at his house in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire. The young boxer then locked the victim in his flat and fled the scene. Later he told his father that he went "in for the kill."
After being found guilty at the Glasgow High Court On Sept. 2, Young now faces a life sentence.
