A 22-year-old woman was allegedly beaten up and her clothes torn off by her girlfriend’s family after she went to their home and tried to stop them from forcibly marrying off her partner to somebody else.
The incident happened on Friday, July 23, in the Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh, India.
The victim, a resident of Delhi’s Mahipalpur area, was hospitalized after suffering serious injuries. She will not be named.
According to local media, the young victim, who worked at a retail shop in Delhi airport told police that her partner had called her on Friday morning saying that her parents are forcible getting her married.
The caller reportedly told the victim to come to her home and rescue her.
"She wanted me to take her away since we are in love and wish to live together," the victim told the Times of India.
The victim hired a cab from Delhi and went to her partner’s house in Aligarh, which is roughly 100 miles away. Once there, the victim asked the cab driver to park the vehicle at some distance from her partner’s house.
However, the girl’s family spotted the victim and forcibly dragged her into the home, where they physically assaulted and robbed her.
"They tore my clothes, misbehaved with me, and snatched away Rs 25,000 ($ 340 approx.) in cash that I was carrying," the victim alleged.
The family members then attacked the innocent cab driver and also damaged his vehicle. No updates were available about his current condition.
The victim continues to recover from her injuries and trauma in a hospital in Aligarh. It is unclear if the victim's partner has been married.
