'Yogi Bear' Animator Finds Bear Living in Crawlspace Under Home: 'My Biggest Complaint' Is He Poops A Lot

A California couple remains unconcerned after discovering a bear living beneath their Sierra Nevada home.

Bob Nesler, a former animator for the children's cartoon series "Yogi Bear," and his wife Susan first noticed the bear hanging out in the home's crawlspace about two weeks ago.

"He comes in apparently around 5-5:30 in the morning and leaves late at night," Susan Nesler told NBC Los Angeles.

The Nesler family has grown so attached to their fine furry friend that they've even given him a cute nickname -- 'Junior'. Though it's safe to say he's anything but: Junior is believed to be a male black bear, weighing between 300-400 pounds."

He has not caused any issues so far, and has been mostly harmless. But the Neslers have expressed concern about one major inconvenience: How much the bear poops.

"He does leave piles of scat," Bob Nesler told the NBC affiliate. "That's about my biggest complaint."

The Neslers say they want the animal removed "for safety's sake," but are only willing to allow wildlife officials to take action if Junior is extracted humanely

On Monday, September 23, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife visited the couple to help lure "Junior" away from the property.

"Easiest option here is to let it leave on its own, stress free and get that space boarded up," Kevin Howells from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife told ABC 7 News.

Nesler is using the time he has left with Junior to reconnect with his love of drawing bears.
