Sony has announced the adaptation of the wildly popular telenovela "Yo Soy Betty La Fea" for the Middle East and North Africa territories. The Sony production office in Egypt will be handling the adaptation that has had over 20 local versions, including one in the U.S. titled "Ugly Betty" and a Mexican version titled "La Fea Más Bella."

"Heba Regal El Ghorab" will consist of 90 one-hour episodes and have Amy Samir Ghanem as the lead character named "Betty".
The story follows a very intelligent, but unattractive, woman who is struggling to find a job and has to take on a job as a secretary. Soon after she finds herself falling for her boss who initially despises her but ends up seeing her interior and good feelings.

Also in the cast are Hazem Samir (Armando), Riham Hagag (Marcela), Mohamed Soliman (Hugo), Reem Mostafa (Patricia), Tamer Yousry (Mario), Maher Maher (Daniel) and Mohamed Salam (Nicolás).
Countries across the Middle East and North Africa, including Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen and others will have the opportunity to fall in love with Betty's charm.
The original telenovela was able to bring some piece in its home country from Colombia when it aired, let's hope it's able to gain traction and do something similar for the crisis-ridden Egypt.
