Yaritza Oliva's tears not only look unsettling and frightening, but the pain is unbearable as well. In fact, Yaritza Oliva calls the pain "indescribable." Upon visiting her doctor, no evidence of infection was found and Yaritza Oliva was sent home with eye drops to help with the pain. Without a clear diagnosis, her parents have turned to their friends and neighbors in Purranque, Chile to help raise money for their daughter so that they can send her to an eye expert.
"Please put your hands over your hearts, see our situation and help my daughter," said her father, Jose, on a local news show.

While there has been no official diagnosis, many believe Yarita Oliva's tears of blood could be caused by a rare condition called haemolacria, which produces tears containing blood. Unfortunately, there are only three documented cases of this condition and the presence of haemolacria is usually a symptom of a more serious illness or tumor. It can also be caused by high level of hormones in fertile women.
In March of 2013, a man in Canada reportedly suffered from a similar condition, as he began crying tears of blood. The man was also bleeding from other parts of his body and a medical team diagnosed that he was suffering from this condition due to a venomous snake bite.

In 2009, the story of Calvino Inman made rounds in the media, as the young boy bled up to three times a day and his family could not figure out why he teared blood.
"Sometimes, I can feel it coming up, like a tear," said Inman at the time. "I feel my eyes watering. Sometimes, it will burn as it comes out. I've been called possessed by almost all of my friends. I guess I'm used to it now. At first, it kind of hurt my feelings."
