WWE Superstar Randy Orton is currently getting a lot of vitriol from the Latin community on Monday for tweeting a photo of himself with a female fan and commenting on his twitter page that he met the “Latino Ms. Piggy.”
“Look @kimbklro I met the Latino Ms. Piggy today at the gym. I wish you were there to have a good laugh with me. #MsPig”
The comment set the social media world aflame and ignited many nasty comments from Orton’s followers as they called him a “jerk” and a “bully.”
However, it appears that many people have jumped to their own conclusions without all the facts first. TMZ.com is reporting that Orton’s girlfriend, Kim Marie, the woman he tagged in the tweet, has been bullied by the woman in the picture for months. The harassment over twitter became so extreme that the fan called Orton a “douche” and both Orton and Kim blocked her on Twitter.
Firstly, I don’t condone the actions of Orton, but think that it’s a tremendous double standard that fans and critics alike can criticize celebrities but if a celebrity criticizes a fan back, he/she is immediately chastised. Only the three people involve know the full extent of the truth, but in Orton’s defense, despite misusing the word “Latino” (he should have used “Latina”) the woman does have a slight resemblance to the Muppet Queen.
The tweet has since been deleted, and Orton has tweeted an apology for the bullying the fan which can be seen below:
