Woman's Infected Leg Had To Be Amputated After Hot Tub Dip With Friends

A British woman had to have her right leg amputated after contracting a deadly blood infection during a hot tub party.

Lauren Briggs, 25, woke up convulsing and feeling nauseous at her friend’s place in Corringham, Essex before being rushed to a nearby hospital after experiencing difficulty breathing. She was diagnosed with a life-threatening blood infection related to meningococcal septicemia, the Daily Mail reported.

Doctors were reportedly forced to amputate her right leg below the knee and her toes on the left leg to save her life and cull the infection.

“Hot tubs are filled with bacteria, so it’s likely that could have been the cause,” Briggs expressed after the ordeal.

Brigg said that she felt disoriented as she fell asleep that night, and her friend found her early morning gasping for breath on the floor. She said she was placed on life support for 48 hours.

“In the end, they couldn’t save my right leg or toes, and they had to be amputated to save my life,” said Briggs.

Brigg also had to undergo multiple skin grafts from her thigh to rebuild her feet, the New York Post noted.

Tracey Briggs, 58, the mother of Lauren, said she couldn’t recognize her daughter when she first arrived at the hospital

“I thought they had taken me to the wrong window. When I saw her, I fell to the floor and begged God to save her and not to let her go,” the Briggs matriarch said.

Tracey mentioned that Lauren was her only child, and doctors told her that she was unlikely to survive longer than 48 hours.

“When I found out about the amputations, I dropped down on the floor again because I knew how this would impact her quality of life,” Tracey added.

Lauren said that she had no idea about the amputations and was devasted when she lifted the covers

“I was always on the go before this, hardly ever sitting down, and now I have to rely on people to do anything,” Lauren added. “It feels like I’m trapped inside my own body, and I just want to get out. It has affected my mental health drastically; my life has been turned upside down.”

Lauren worked as a receptionist at a surgical office. She is unlikely to go back to work in the near future as her condition includes a speech impairment.
