After 17 surgeries, a New York woman is finally getting a new face. In 2005, Ilianexy Morales was stabbed over 100 times by her ex-boyfriend.
The man, about 10 years older than Morales, was reportedly an attentive partner at first. He exclusively supported her financially so that she could take care of a young daughter and ailing mother. But Morales told ABC News that the unnamed man eventually became controlling and demanding.
Eventually, she insisted on breaking up with him, and he later forced himself into her house and stabbed her with a butcher knife, nearly decapitating her. After multiple surgeries and a stint in a life-threatening coma, she survived the ordeal but suffered innumerable scars all over her body and face.
Dr. Andrew Jacono then donated his services to perform intensive plastic surgery on Morales, who now looks completely scar-free. Taking skin samples from other less-affected parts of her body, he successfully reconstructed her figure. Dr. Laura Torrado also provided a new set of teeth for Morales, adding to the triumph of her recovery.
The ex-boyfriend is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence for the assault.
