A woman in India’s Hyderabad allegedly killed herself after an argument with her tailor husband over a blouse he stitched for her. The 36-year-old mother of two was reportedly unhappy with the way her husband had stitched the blouse.
The deceased woman, identified as Vijayalakshmi, was found hanging from the ceiling of her bedroom at her residence in Amberpet, Hyderabad, India, on Monday, Dec. 6.
According to local media reports, Vijayalakshmi lived with her husband, Srinivas, and their two school-going children at the Golnaka Thirumala Nagar area in the city.
Srinivas, a tailor by profession, made his livelihood by going door to door selling sarees and blouses that he stitched.
On Saturday, he came home with a blouse for his wife. however, she was reportedly not impressed with the way he had stitched the blouse.
She asked him to restitch the blouse but he reportedly refused to do so. This gave way to a heated argument between the couple, according to local media.
Srinivasa then took the blouse's stitches out and handed it to her, asking her to stitch it as per her liking.
Offended by her husband’s actions, Vijayalakshmi stormed into her bedroom and locked the doors from the inside.
In the evening, when the kids got home they found the bedroom door locked. They repeatedly knocked on the door, but no one answered.
They alerted their father who then broke open the door and found Vijayalkshmi hanging dead from the ceiling.
Local people responded to the scene and transferred the body to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. No suicide note was recovered from the scene.
During questioning, Srinivas told the investigators that Vijayalakshmi used to lock herself in the room whenever she was upset. So he left her alone to cool off but didn’t expect she would take such a drastic step, he reportedly told the police.
A case of unnatural death has been registered and a further probe is underway, Amberpet Inspector P.Sudhakar said.
This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were revealed at the time of this writing.
