A woman reportedly died while on her way returning home after taking her second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Aurangabad, Bihar, India on Saturday, Nov. 20.
The deceased, Rinku Devi, reportedly collapsed on the road and died while on her way home from a hospital after receiving her second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Health officials have yet to disclose the specific vaccine brand that Devi received.
On Saturday, Nov. 20, Devi proceeded to Sadar Hospital in Aurangabad to receive her second jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, only a couple of days before her daughter's marriage. However, while returning home from the hospital, the woman felt uncomfortable and collapsed on the road. Her husband Jitendra Singh immediately rushed her back to Sadar Hospital where she received the vaccine. Unfortunately, the attending doctors at the facility declared her dead on arrival, Telangana Today reported.
Following the woman's death, an angry mob consisting of the woman's relatives and family members allegedly stormed into Sadar Hospital and damaged medical equipment. The group also reportedly assaulted the Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO), as well as other medical staff, including two doctors named Vikas Kumar and Amrit Kumar.
The two doctors reportedly shortly fled the hospital's premises after the attacks in order to save themselves from further harm. The situation was finally de-escalated after authorities dispatched about 100 police personnel who arrived at the facility and dispersed the violent crowd.
“My wife was healthy while visiting the Sadar hospital… She wanted to take the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as just a couple of days were remaining for our daughter’s marriage. I am sure that the doctors of the hospital had given her the wrong injection that led to her death. Murder case should be registered against the alleged doctors and nurses,” the woman's husband said.
Meanwhile, a police officer said that they have received formal complaints from hospital staff who were beaten by the violent mob. The authorities added that they are waiting for the autopsy result to ascertain the actual cause of death behind the woman's sudden passing.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 36-year-old woman reportedly suddenly collapsed in a market near her house on Oct. 22 morning while she was returning home after getting vaccinated in Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru, India, the Hindu reported.
The woman reportedly received the COVID-19 vaccine shot at a government hospital at around 11.20 a.m. on Oct. 22. However, while she was returning home, she suddenly collapsed and had to be taken to a hospital for immediate treatment. However, the doctors at the facility declared her dead upon arrival.
Following her death, the officers registered a case of unnatural death in connection with the incident.
