A woman is suing a local McDonald's branch for allegedly serving her a burger wrapper covered with feces. The fast-food chain said the allegations are unsupported.
Amanda Bordois, a woman from Millville, New Jersey, accused the North High Street McDonald's branch of negligence after allegedly receiving a drive-thru meal smeared with feces. In the civil suit filed at the Cumberland County Superior Court, Bordois said
her family suffered physical and emotional distress following the incident, the Vineland Daily Journal reported.
Bordois said her family brought home food in a paper bag from the local McDonald's on Jan. 13. She and her daughter started eating the fries from the bag which also contained the burger. When her daughter took out the burger, she noticed a brown substance on her hand and all over the wrapper.
They also noticed a "horrible stench from the substance on the burger," court papers reveal.
"To their disbelief and shock, plaintiffs realized what they had just ingested was human feces, which was touching their French fries in the same bag and that was all over (the child's) hand and the wrapper of the burger," the lawsuit claims, according to NJ.com.
Bordois reportedly attempted to call the McDonald's branch but there was no response. She then called the police.
"I looked into the bag and observed what appeared to be feces on the wrapper of a burger in the bag," Officer Kevin Gandy wrote in his report, the Daily Journal noted. A photo on the site also showed the burger wrapper in question.
Gandy reportedly spoke to the McDonald's manager who said the claim was "not possible."
Franchise owner John Durante also denies any wrongdoing, saying safety is a top priority for the chain.
"Serving safe, high-quality food is always our top priority," Durante said in a statement to NJ.com.
"We've taken appropriate steps to investigate this and have been unable to substantiate this claim."
The lawsuit alleges that McDonald's failed to prepare, package and serve the food in a sanitary manner. Bordois is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for the incident.
