A woman has been accused of attacking her boyfriend and leaving him bleeding after growing upset that he did not surprise her with a cake during her birthday in Red Bank, New Jersey on Friday, July 22.
Deputies from the Red Bank police force responded to the scene after they were alerted of a domestic disturbance and a stabbing at an apartment at 2425 Ashmore Avenue. When the officers reached the scene, they found the victim lying at the bottom of a flight of stairs and bleeding from his head. The victim claimed that his girlfriend, Amanda Norwood, had attacked him before immediately leaving the scene in a red Mustang, The Chattanoogan reported.
According to the victim, Norwood was upset that he did not make her a cake for her birthday. During the argument, Norwood reportedly stormed into their bedroom saying she was going to kill herself with a knife. When the victim followed her, he saw that Norwood had already cut herself once with the sharp blade.
However, as he tried to take the knife away from her, she lunged at him with it. Following this, as the victim tried to leave the room, the woman hit him with a crow bar. The victim again grabbed Norwood to restrain her. The woman allegedly proceeded to hit him with it in the back of the head. The victim suffered grievous injuries in the attack and had numeroud lacerations on his head.
According to the couple's neighbors, on the day of the incident, they heard the two arguing and the sound of objects being smashed against the floor. The neighbors later found the victim bleeding profusely from his head, They placed a towel over the man's wounds to stop the bleeding and quickly alerted the police.
The duo's neighbors claim that this is not the first time the couple has figured in a domestic disturbance. The victim recently had to go to the hospital after a similar fight ensued between the couple.
Following the incident, the authorities launched an investigation and later located the accused's Mustang. Norwood reportedly almost hit an officer. as she tried to flee in her vehicle. She was subsequently stopped and taken into custody.
During questioning, Norwood claimed that she had locked herself in their bedroom because her boyfriend was beating her. Acording to Norwood, her boyfriend then kicked the door in and threw her to the floor with his hand on her throat. She added that she then grabbed a tire iron and hit him with it in an act of self defense to try to get him off her.
Norwood has been charged with attempted murder, felony evading arrest, felony reckless endangerment, assault on a police officer, tampering with evidence, possession of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
