An elderly Pakistani man whose dismembered body parts were found scattered outside an apartment complex was murdered by his wife reportedly under the influence of crystal methamphetamine (ice), authorities said.
The dismembered body of the 65-year-old victim, Sheikh Sohail was found by the police during a raid at an apartment in a residential building on Abdullah Haroon Road in Saddar, Karachi on Friday, Dec. 10.
His 40-year-old wife, Rubab Asma was found asleep with bloodstains on her hands and clothes, according to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Zubair Nazir Sheikh.
"We got a call that parts of a human hand were seen lying near a flat in an old apartment building in Saddar area. When our team reached and opened the flat they found the woman deep asleep, with some parts of a human body lying close to her and other dismembered parts spread all over the flat," the officer said.
According to the police, Sohail and Asma had tied the knot in 2013 and had been ice addicts for the past seven years. The couple often engaged in heated arguments under influence of drugs.
On the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, the couple had consumed an excessive dose of ice when a scuffle erupted between the duo.
During the argument, the woman slapped her husband and then struck his head with an iron bar.
"We used to fight often and sometimes would not speak with each other for months," Asma said in her confessional statement.
She then reportedly slit his throat before dismembering his body parts, the investigation officials said.
A witness, a watchman reported seeing Asma throwing the chopped hands of her husband outside the window.
She then reportedly came out of her house, picked the severed hands, and went back into her house, the police officials added.
"All evidence points towards her [as the killer]," police had stated.
The death is being investigated and evidence is being collected from the crime scene, the police official said.
"The woman has been arrested as we found evidence including her blood-stained clothes and the equipment used to dismember the body," Sheikh said.
