Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, may have already found her biggest ally in the royal family. She is none other than Sophie, Countess of Sussex, the wife of Prince Edward.
According to royal experts, Sophie, Countess of Wessex's, body language suggests that she could be the perfect royal mentor for the Duchess of Sussex. Although she and Meghan Markle have different backgrounds, Sophie’s experience as a countess for more than two decades can greatly help Meghan adjust to royal life with ease and grace.
Prince Edward and Sophie married at Windsor Castle in 1999, the same venue where Prince Harry and Meghan married in 2018. Just weeks after Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding, Queen Elizabeth spotted Sophie and Meghan out together, and she thought they could become allies. Royal experts believe that Meghan’s closeness to Sophie could be an advantage to Meghan as Sophie is close to the Queen.
Body language expert Judi James said that Sophie’s long-term marriage to Prince Edward makes her a great influence to Meghan Markle. “The Queen’s body language with Sophie suggests her daughter-in-law is a bit of a confidante, with Sophie’s relaxed, constantly calm and upbeat demeanor seeming to allow the Queen to relax more in her company, too,” she said.
“Sophie always looks like the ‘no fuss’ royal and her long-term marriage to the royal prince who once seemed the least likely to settle down after some fickle career choices suggests she’s a great stabilizing influence and might make the perfect royal mentor for Meghan,” she added.
According to James, Sophie and Meghan could turn their differences into a huge strength if Sophie takes on the role of a royal ally to Meghan. Since Sophie already knows the ropes of royal life, Meghan can look to her for advice. Luckily, Sophie’s body language clearly shows that she’s on hand to offer help if needed.
James also noted that Sophie could play a quasi-parental role to ensure that Meghan always feels happy and comfortable being part of the royal circle. Although they demonstrate contrasting lifestyle traits, their mirrored and synchronized body language suggests that they could be like-minded about many things and that they may have more in common than expected.
