Is This Why Selena Gomez Snubbed MTV VMAs 2019?

Selena Gomez didn’t attend this year’s MTV VMAs despite previously teasing that she would have a busy fall ahead. The singer has two nominations this year.

The coming months will be packed for Selena Gomez, but her busy schedule doesn’t include the MTV VMAs. Prior to the event, representatives of the singer had confirmed that she would not attend the buzzy award show in Newark, New Jersey, despite actually having two nominations this year.

Gomez was nominated for Best Latin Song for “I Can’t Enough,” where she collaborated with Benny Blanco, Tainy and J. Balvin. She also nabbed one nomination for Best Dance Song for “Taki Taki,” which she did with DJ Snake, Cardi B and Ozuna.

Considering her two nominations, many of Gomez’s fans wonder why their idol has chosen not to attend the awards show when it was going to be held just outside of New York City. However, some fans point out that since her nominations are for collaborations she did in the past year and not for her solo work, it’s understandable why the singer opted not to fly to the East Coast for the show.

Previously, Gomez confirmed that she would be releasing new music soon. In an Instagram post, she hinted that her upcoming release would be something “very personal.” In a series of Instagram posts she shared recently, the singer said that her summer break was coming to an end and that her busy days were just around the corner.

“Sometimes I can’t express how truly grateful I am,” she captioned one of her photos from her Italy birthday getaway. “No, back to work,” she added.

Despite her decision not to attend the MTV VMAs 2019, it looks like Gomez is still making the most of her summer with her friends. Just last night, she was spotted out with a bunch of friends at Kacey Musgave’s concert in Los Angeles.

A source recently revealed that Gomez would like to enjoy her time off before things ramp up again. “Selena has been working on new music and plans to release some this year,” a source close to the singer said.

“The new music is going to be a different side of Selena and very personal. Selena has gone through a lot over the years and is ready to share it with the world,” the source added.
