Queen Elizabeth once made a heartbreaking joke about Prince Harry’s future. The monarch once thought that she would no longer be around to meet her grandson’s children.

In an article for Vanity Fair, royal author Katie Nicholl said that Her Majesty thought she probably won’t be around to witness the arrival of the Duke of Sussex’s children. This is because Prince Harry had been single for a few years before he met Meghan Markle.

“Not so long ago she joked that she probably won’t be around to see Harry have children, but there she is at the age of 93, welcoming another baby,” Nicholl said. The Queen’s youngest great-grandchild was born on May 6 at the Portland Hospital in London.

But despite the Queen’s excitement over witnessing the arrival of her eighth great-grandchild, it has also been said that she will skip Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s christening. The youngster will be baptized privately at one of the Queen’s churches.

Only 25 people are expected to attend the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son’s christening. This includes Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince William and Kate Middleton, Doria Ragland and Archie’s godparents.

Meghan’s best friend, Jessica Mulroney, is expected to fly to London from Canada since she’s tipped as one of Archie’s godparents. There are also rumors that George and Amal Clooney will be in attendance.

The Queen attended the christening of her two great-grandchildren with Prince William and Kate in 2013 and 2015. Prince George was born in 2013, while Princess Charlotte was born in 2015.

But last year, Her Majesty didn’t make it to Prince Louis’ christening because she and Prince Philip were returning from Norfolk at that time. This year, the Queen has another scheduled royal engagement on the same day as Archie’s christening.

Prince Philip is not also expected to attend the baptism of his great-grandson because he has already retired. The Duke of Edinburgh is allowed to choose which events he wishes to attend. He was present at Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding on May 19, 2018. He was also at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s nuptials.
