Princess Diana has been viewed beside Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton multiple times in the past two years. Aside from the simple similarities in their fashion sense and choices when it comes to jewelry, the late Princess of Wales and her daughters-in-law share the same taste for philanthropic ventures.

Though the People’s Princess never met the wives of her children, royal experts claim that they would have been close had that opportunity been present. However, as both Diana and Meghan are strong-willed women, it was said that this could lead to a possible clashing of the two.

But royal biographer Andrew Morton believes that the Duchess of Sussex would have caught on to Diana “like a house on fire.” These women are both known not only for being warm and compassionate but also for going against the tide and breaking away from royal traditions.

Much like Diana, Meghan built a strong following all across the globe. And this has given her a unique opportunity to do good using such great influence.

“I think Diana and Meghan would have got on like a house on fire because she’d have seen in Meghan somebody she aspired to be herself, someone who was an articulate activist on the world stage,” said Morton earlier this year. “And she’d have been thinking, ‘I wish there’d been social media when I was around,’” he added.

Meghan and Diana might have “admired” each other, but Diana would have found Kate “more accessible,” continued the biographer. They have somewhat of a similar backstory, having attended a private school only to be thrust into the trappings of royalty at a young age, unable to enjoy having a career of their own. Meghan, on the other hand, was able to make a successful career in acting prior to meeting Prince Harry.

“Kate would have been far more accessible in terms of her own background, somebody who went to a private school in Britain,” explained Morton. “Diana was wanting to do a degree in psychology before she died.”

Ingrid Seward, author and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, suggested that things might not have been smooth for Meghan and Diana. “Diana is actually quite snobbish,” said Seward.

“She was very proud of her Spencer heritage, and although she was great with the ordinary man, she might not have wanted someone for her son who had been married before and was from such a different background.”
