Although many Latino fans were excited with the possibility of Maná becoming the first Spanish-language group inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Mexican band didn't make it to this year's lineup, and they're not the only high-profile ones. Other artists like Mariah Carey, Oasis, and Joy Division/New Order were other potential inductees controversially excluded from the 2025 ceremony.

The selection process of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has often been a topic of debate, with critics pointing out the underrepresentation of non-English-speaking artists. Inductees are selected via a nominating committee made up of over 1000 music industry professionals and artists, who submit a ballot of who should be inducted.

The public is also included in this process via an online poll of who fans think should be inducted, and the 5 artists with the most fan votes would receive an extra point in the internal election process.

Maná, renowned for their contributions to Latin rock and their global influence, were among the nominees but did not make the final cut. Their omission is notable, especially considering the band's significant impact on the genre and their widespread popularity.

The 2025 class of inductees includes Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, Soundgarden, The White Stripes, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, and Joe Cocker in the performer category. Additionally, Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon will receive the Musical Influence Award, while Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, and Carol Kaye are set to be honored with the Musical Excellence Award. Lenny Waronker will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.

Fher Olvera, Maná's lead singer, posted a video on social media expressing his gratitude to be considered for the ceremony but emphasized that the best prize the band could ever win is to see audiences connecting with their music.

He captioned the post, "We thank @rockhall (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) for nominating a Mexican band that proudly sings in Spanish. Although this year we will not enter the Hall of Fame, this nomination has been historic, it was a war cry for all music and the Latin community. In the end, the biggest prize we have is you, to see them sing, to see them dance and to see the joy and nostalgia they have. Watching them soak in nostalgia is the biggest thing about the band. Thank you very much, see you soon in Spain🇪🇸 and the United States🇺🇸!
