Ariana Grande recently made an insensitive comment about a 6-year-old pageant queen who was murdered in 1996. The singer’s joke did not sit well with critics, who immediately called her out for what she said.

Grande’s friend, Doug Middlebrook, posted a photo of a magazine cover featuring JonBenet Ramsey on Instagram. “No one has done more covers,” Middlebrook captioned the snap.

The “7 Rings” singer commented on her pal’s post and joked about his Halloween costume this year. “I can’t wait for this to be your Halloween look,” Grande wrote. “Working on it already,” Middlebrook replied.

After reading the singer’s comment, one critic slammed Grande for joking about the unsolved murder of the young girl. Ramsey was found murdered in the basement of her home in Boulder, Colorado, on Dec. 26, 1996.

Initial investigations suggested that Ramsey’s parents might have had something to do with her murder. But officials later on cleared their names after DNA findings.

“Ariana is a 26-year-old woman who we would think would be mature but instead had the audacity to go under Doug’s post about JonBenet Ramsey and proceeds to type ‘I can’t wait for this to be your Halloween costume,’” the fan wrote. “And she put an [expletive] heart to it too…” the critic added on Twitter.

“Wait, what??” another critic wrote. “[Someone] who was violently killed, strangled and suffocated cannot be anyone’s costume,” the critic added.

One day after she received flak on social media, Grande apologized for her joke. She said that she deleted it very quickly after realizing that it wasn’t funny. The “Sweetener” singer also said that her comment was out of the pocket and sincerely apologized for it.

This isn’t the first time that Ariana Grande was slammed for her insensitivity. Years ago, she was also criticized for licking a batch of donuts and then leaving them for customers to purchase. In the video, Grande could also be heard saying that she hates Americans.

The next day, Grande also took her thoughts to Twitter to apologize for her deed. She also said that she’s extremely proud to be an American.
