Bryan Bautista is taking “The Voice” by storm! The 23-year-old singer caught returning judge Christina Aguilera’s attention right from the get-go during the blind auditions.
“You were really feeling the moment,” Xtina said of Bautista’s rendition of The Weekend’s “The Hills.” “You didn’t really have your eyes opened but I just want you to know before anything starts…I did press my button first.”
Although Blake Shelton put on a good fight to steal the Latino crooner from the American-Ecuadorian songstress, Bautista followed his gut and joined Team Christina (#TeamXtina), where he has remained for the rest of the competition.
Here are 10 things you need to know about the talented performer:
1) He is from Brooklyn, NY.
2) He grew up in Sheepshead Bay.
3) He is of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent.
4) He always dreamed of being a singer. He was a regular at the talent show at Brooklyn Technical High School.
5) Less than a year ago, he was working as an usher at the Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets.
6) He became a viral sensation in 2014, when he had the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a Nets vs. Knicks game sporting his usher’s uniform.
7) This is not his first time on “The Voice.” Bautista was invited to perform during season 9’s blind auditions. Unfortunately, his vocals did not turn any chairs then.
8) He has a younger brother, who was cheering for him throughout his audition at the beginning of the season, and a younger sister, who recently celebrated her 18th birthday on the show.
9) He is a momma’s boy! “Happy Mother’s Day to my rock. To the strongest person I know. I love you, Ma,” he said on Instagram about the woman who encouraged him to pursue his career in music after his talent was noticed.
10) He just made it to the Top 9 on the reality singing competition. So, go vote!
