The Sochi Olympics begin Feb. 7, 2014 and run through to Feb. 23. The Olympic Opening Ceremony will take place on Feb. 7 commencing at 8:14 p.m., or 20:14. NBC will be providing more than 1,539 hours worth of coverage of the event, so there is no need to leave your couch and venture into the cold! There will be 98 events in 15 winter sport disciplines -- something for everyone. At $50 billion dollars, these are the most expensive Olympic Games ever held.
Sochi Olypmic coverage in the United States begins at 8 p.m. ET on Feb. 6, 2014. The first event will be the men's and pairs figure skating short program, the women's moguls and men's and women's snowboarding. This will be followed by the Opening Ceremony on Feb. 7. During the ceremony, NBC will have "New Yorker" magazine editor David Remnick as a "special contributor." The games themselves will be hosted by Bob Costas.
There are a number of new events at this year's games, including Figure Skating Team event, Women's Ski Jumping, Ski Halfpipe and Biathlon Mixed relay - there will be twelve new events in all, making this the biggest Olympics to date. While there are still concerns over security following a string of terrorist attacks in recent months and controversy surrounding Russia's controversial anti-gay propaganda laws, its sure to be an exciting two weeks!
