ALABAMA - How much money would you need to attend this year's Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas? Certainly a lot more than previous years. According to data from online ticket marketplaces, prices for this year's big game are almost 70% more expensive compared to last year's Super Bowl in Arizona.
One of the main reasons might be the location. For the first time ever, Las Vegas will host the NFL's biggest game of the year. Allegiant Stadium, inaugurated in 2020, is the home of the fairly-recent relocated Las Vegas Raiders. The stadium as a capacity of over 65,000 and it remains as the second-most expensive stadium ever built: costing $1.9 billion, it only sits behind Los Angeles SoFi Stadium, which hosted the Super Bowl in 2022.
The venue has seen a multitude of big events since it opened, including championship games of the now defunct Pac-12 Conference and the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup final between the United States and Mexico. This Summer, Allegiant Stadium will host three Copa América games.
Back to the ticket prices, it will be a record year for fans, as prices seem to have reached an all-time high (so far). If you want to watch Chiefs and Niners from one of the 65,000 seats in Allegiant Stadium, you would need to spend around $9,804 for a single ticket, which is about 69% more expensive than last year's similar tickets for the matchup between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles ($5,795), accordinf to data from TickPick.
For other retailers like SeatGeek, the high prices for this year's game might be closely related to the location and the capacity of the venue. Scarcity might be playing a role in how much people got to pay in order to get in, as the 65,000-seat stadium ranks 27th among 32 NFL stadiums in terms of capacity.
Using the information provided by online ticket sellers, San Francisco might see a home-field advantage when taking on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Feb. 11. StubHub's date revealed that buyers from California account for 26% of all tickets sold, compared to Kansas/Missouri at just 7%.
Chiefs and Niners have lots of experience when it comes to playing in the big game, both on the field and in the stands. Kansas City has reached the Super Bowl in four of the last five seasons, while the Niners have two appearances in the same period. In 2020, both teams faced each other in Miami, a game that also saw records in terms of ticket prices. With Miami as the host city, the average purchase price for a 'get-in' ticket was $6,370, per TickPick.
No matter which website you look at, it will be pretty much impossible to find a Super Bowl LVIII ticket in Vegas if you are not willing to shell out thousands of dollars. If the show on the field can compare to the amount of money you have to pay to watch it live, it is fair to say football fans are up for a game for the ages.
