It’s the most talked about fight in the industry right now. A little over a week ago after the Met Gala in NYC, Beyoncé, Jay Z and Solange were at the Standard Hotel after party. They got into the elevator with another man, presumably their bodyguard, and before the doors even closed, Solange ferociously attacked Jay Z. She was kicking and swinging at the rapper while the brawl was caught on surveillance video. The whole time, Beyoncé stands there without getting physically involved.
At one point, the alleged bodyguard hits the emergency stop button as if he were trying to keep the altercation in private. Eventually they all get out of the elevator and walk out the building. Beyoncé and Solange get in one car, while Jay Z is escorted to an SUV waiting for him. Although some media outlets have reported alleged reasons why Solange broke into a fight with Jay, nothing has been official. However, people are still talking about it and even Jennifer Lopez was dragged into the conversation.
In an interview with Hot 97’s Angie Martínez, JLo was asked about the hottest topic right now. "You can't speculate what's going on," Lopez said when asked to give her take on the situation. "What I do know about being in the public eye is that you never know the real story and you never will unless somebody decides to share it." She continued to explain that she understands that curiosity plays a big part in people’s lives. “It makes people crazy and wanna know more. I mean if you saw a fight on the street right out here wouldn't you wanna know what happened? People that you didn't even know that weren't famous.”
“It’s like, 'What happened?' I think that's just a natural curiosity,” she added. "People are just nosey and you just gotta know that when you're in this business and roll with the punches." So far none of the parties involved in the elevator brawl have publicly commented on the incident and it looks as if it’s going to remain that way.
