On Thursday at 11:35 a.m. a Westminster explosion leveled a Denver home and severely damaged others leaving two people, including a police officer with minor injuries. Firefighters at the scene of the Westminster explosion believe it was caused by a gas leak, but an official cause will not be announced until after an investigation is complete.
When rescue crews first arrived at the scene of the explosion three people were believed to be missing, but the Christian Science Monitor says all three people, believed to be residents of the destroyed home were accounted for later that day.
The Denver Post interviewed Monique Gallegos a Westminster resident inside of her home at the time of the explosion. Gallegos said her initial belief was that a terrorist set off a bomb.

"I thought a plane had crashed, or it was a bomb, a terrorist," Gallegos said to the Denver Post.
Gallegos said she grabbed her 70-year-old mother and ran out of the house. Once in the street they saw debris flying everywhere. Windows had been blown out from the force of the explosion. Roof shingles were ripped off and the house on Ingalls Street was now nothing more than a pile of rubble.
According to KDRV.com the Westminster fire department evacuated residents between the area of 92nd avenue and 96th avenue, as well as Pierce Street and Westminster Boulevard. Residents in those areas could feel the vibrations of the explosion radiate through their apartments.
"I just heard a loud explosion that shook my entire apartment complex," Resident Brittany Marlier said to KDRV. "I spoke with my neighbors and they felt the impact as well."
Reports are saying that several residents thought they smelt gas just before the Westminster explosion. Xcel teams were called to the scene to investigate whether or not natural gas was the underline cause of the explosion.
