A California arson suspect accidentally set himself on fire while igniting a car, fleeing the scene while engulfed in flames.
The incident took place early Tuesday morning in the front yard of a Corona, California, home on Wakefield Avenue, according to ABC 7. Surveillance footage captured the suspect attempting to set a black sedan on fire before suddenly catching fire himself.
In the video, the man, believed to be in his 30s, is seen standing next to the vehicle as it bursts into flames.
Moments later, he himself is engulfed, jumping a fence and running down the street while still burning. The man reportedly escaped in a white pickup truck.
The fire completely destroyed the car and caused damage to a nearby home. Authorities are actively searching for the suspect and reviewing surveillance footage to track his movements.
The Corona Fire Department is also investigating whether the arson was targeted or random.
